Procol Harum - Repent Walpurgis

Musically, I am all over the scale of what I find to be good.
P.H. is a group I have followed since their first release WHITER SHADE OF PALE back in 1967.
The band is still touring, recording and releasing new music every year. They are tremendously popular in England and Europe where they play before sold out crowds.
This particular offering is from their debut album in '67.
For your pleasure I present PROCOL HARUM.

Where I am...

Last thing you need to read is the ramblings of someone who thinks they have wisdom. Worse than that is someone who thinks they have wisdom and blog from which to spew forth these jewels. Does anyone truly ever stop to think if anyone wants to hear what wisdom they have? Naw...in this day and age, humanity is driven by opinion.

Talk radio....
Talk shows on television.....
Self-help books written by "broken" people.....
Information floods us like a tidal wave of epic proportions.
So what is the reality of this day............September 12, 2009?
Simple.
I'm alive.

Everything else pales in comparison.
For some, simply being alive isn't enough.

There has to be more.
Oh, I'm sure there is and there is no limit to what we, as humans, can fill up our lives with.

I like seeing life through the eyes of kids. My grand kids.
Vicki and I kept them yesterday and when it drew near to eat supper, we offered to take them anywhere they wanted to go to eat.
McDonald's!!!! With a resounding, confirming "yes", we drove to the one across from the mall.
Of course there was an ulterior motive for wanting to eat at McDonalds.......the playground.
Sure, we had to eat.......but the playground!!!

The opportunity to explore and climb and slide.
To imagine. The slide ceases to be a plastic tube in which children are launched laughing and screaming, twirling around and around as they make their way to the bottom. No...the slide becomes a giant snake and you, the child, are trapped inside.

The multi-colored steps you have to climb to get to the slide cease to be simply plastic steps but instead, become the Matterhorn or Mt. Everest.
My eyes are old. I don't see like that much anymore. I wished I did.
I think I might work at getting this part of eyesight back.
Sure would make things more interesting.

The essence of childhood is to take what life has given you and see it for something else.
Turning disappointment into joy.
Life...
I want to live it before I loose it.
Thank you , Lord for:

My wife...
My family....
My friends....
My talents....
My humor...
My life....

Until next time.

How I Remember Them

This is my most favorite photo of the Beatles. For me the Rubber Soul recording was when it all started to change musically for them. The music seemed to have grown up and gotten more seriously. The Beatles had grown up and were not content to rest on their past accomplishments. From this recording on, the best was in front of them. If you look at the complete library of their work, it is pretty amazing at the not just the number of songs they wrote, but the quality of music they produced.
There has been a wave (again) of Beatlemania with the release of video games and books and music. Wal-mart (the great American Store) has released the entire Beatle Catalog of music at a pretty good price. I went by this morning and picked up the WHITE ALBUM. Getting back into my truck, I popped in Disc #1 and soon the cab was filled with BACK IN THE USSR. Even 40 plus years later, this song rocks. Funny thing, I remember playing back in my teen age days and my Dad really being upset by the inference that the USSR was the better place to be. "Communists" as my Dad lovingly referred to the Beatles.
I never got caught up in the lifestyle that some associated with the Beatles or other groups. I just loved the music. Even to this day, I can tell you where the mistakes are in their songs that, for whatever reason, they chose to leave in. If you play the song PAPERBACK WRITER and turn the balance to the side where you only have the voices, you'll hear one of the Beatlers clear his throat and cough before singing the back ground vocals. At another point, you'll hear someone come in too early, stop and then pick up when the others come in. Maybe the mistakes made the Beatles more human than the media or the record companies wanted the m to be.
So here is my "hat's off" salute to the British Invasion.
You came to America and took us by a storm without firing a shot.
You set off a fire inside me to learn how to play the guitar, of which, I might add, I am still playing and trying to be better at it even to this day.
Here's to the four lads from Liverpool!
Good day Sunshine...

The Beatles Dear Prudence

I'm having a Beatles Flashback. It's not really my fault. I don't have an I-pod for I to listen to. I feel left out not having an I-pod...I would settle for a me-pod or even a group-pod that we could all borrow.

I purchased the White Album on Cd.........Go figure.
It has always been one of my favorite albums even with all the goofy stuff like Revolution #9. It seems that w/ Rubber Soul and Revolver, the music took off. It took me with it.
I can't tell you the number of nights I spent with headphones on listening to their music over and over and over. After a long hiatus, it is good to go back and revisit this music again.

Green Lantern

DC is gearing up to release a movie of one of my favorite characters in the DC universe........Green Lantern.
Hal Jordan, test pilot, comes across a crashed vehicle that appears to be from another world. Inside the occupant hands to Jordan a ring............the Green Lantern ring. A ring which carries power to create whatever the wearer thinks. Along with ring comes the power source. We learn that Hal Jordan becomes one of many Green Lanters through out the universe. They collectively are known as the GREEN LANTERN CORPS.

"In brightest day and darkest night.....
No evil shall escape my sight....
let those who worship evil's might...
beware the power.....
Green Lantern's light

Peter Gunn

I would rate this as one of the best theme songs for a television show ever, ever, red-light, promise-a-real-promise, ever in the history of the boob tube. Who could not listen to this and not think "cool"...I mean it just gets down in you. If you have a favorite theme song that you think is better, please list it and tell me why! Let's have some fun!!!!
